Sermon Title: Generous with Our Finances- Erma’s Law: Arriving Home with Nothing Left

Teacher: Rev. Dr. Brian Ebel

Scripture: Matthew 20:1-16

Big Idea:
You are given an opportunity to be generous with the financial treasure in your life – choose an abundance mindset, and make the best deal by investing in what’s eternal!

Key Points

Point 1

The parable of the landowner comes directly after Jesus interacts with a rich young ruler. When he goes away sad because of his great wealth the disciples were shocked. Notice the Scripture…

When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying,
“Who then can be saved?”
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Then Peter said in reply,
“See, we have left everything and followed you.
What then will we have?”

Matthew 19:25-27

Point 2

But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what belongs to you and go.
I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’ So the last will be first,
and the first last.”

Matthew 20:13-16

Sometimes we get so wrapped up grumbling over the financial deal we’ve gotten in life that we miss the fact that God has called us friend!

The two ways to look at your finances: scarcity or abundance.

How do you view your finances?

Point 3
The upside-down economics of the Kingdom is this: you aren’t the day laborer. You’re the land owner. Invest your time wisely!
