Sermon Series: Hebrews: Rediscovering Jesus

Teacher: Rev. Dr. Brian Ebel

Scripture: Hebrews 11:1-2; John 20:1-19

Big Idea: The resurrection of Jesus is not just the core belief of our faith, the core message of our faith, it’s the CORE MISSION of our faith.

Key Point #1

Faith is a 2-way street. There’s God’s part + our part. God provides us the assurance to believe, and we trust by faith in his promises even though we have not seen all of them come to pass.

Hebrews 11:1-2:
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation.

Key Point #2

Faith ultimately depends on one question: How do you see Jesus? Dead or alive?

* It isn’t just a set of intellectual propositions with which to agree with or disagree.
* It isn’t your family culture that brings you to services on Christmas and Easter.

* Faith is the reason you live, breathe, give your time, money, blood, sweat, and tears.
* Faith is the reason four words change our lives just as they did the women who went to the tomb, Peter, John, and all the faithful of the Church: WE RIDE AT DAWN.

Key point #3

If you believe Jesus is risen from the dead, then tomorrow it’s time to ride at dawn.
