Listen Up! – Rev. Dr. Jessica LaGrone

Sermon Title: Listen Up!
Teacher: Rev. Dr. Jessica LaGrone
Scripture: 1 Kings 19:1-18
Big Idea:
God still speaks, but often in ways we don’t expect. To hear Him, we must quiet ourselves, tune our hearts, and trust that His voice will meet us right where we are.
Key Points
- God speaks in different ways to different people Elijah expected to hear God in the same dramatic way Moses did—but God chose to whisper. Don’t expect God to speak to you the same way He speaks to someone else.
- Not everything loud is from God Just because something is dramatic or destructive doesn’t mean it’s divine. We must be discerning in a noisy world, especially when others claim to speak for God.
- God cares for us before He speaks to us Elijah was physically and emotionally depleted. God first offered rest and nourishment before revealing His presence.
- Silence is a spiritual discipline To hear the whisper, we must create space for silence. In a world full of constant noise, stillness is an act of faith.
- Four consistent ways God speaks today
- Scripture: the clearest and most foundational way
- The Holy Spirit: through nudges, inner promptings, or external circumstances
- Sense and wisdom: through God-given discernment
- The saints (Christian community): through the faithful people around us
