Sermon Title: “Ruined for Good“
Series: Summer School
Preacher: Rev. Matt Penny
Date: Sunday, July 13, 2025
Scripture: Isaiah 6
Big Idea:
When we truly behold the majesty of God, we are ruined…not in the way the world defines brokenness, but ruined for good…changed forever by confession, mercy, and calling.
Key Points:
- The Majesty of God Orients Reality God’s holiness resets all of our perceptions. Isaiah’s vision re-centered his life around God’s throne.
- Confession is the Proper Response to Majesty Standing before a holy God reveals the depth of our sin.
- Mercy Comes with Fire—but Heals The burning coal is painful, but freeing. God’s severe mercy restores.
- The Mercy of God Demands a Response Isaiah volunteers without knowing the details—because mercy changes us.
- A Ruined-for-Good Life is a Consecrated Life Like Kintsugi pottery, our cracks and wounds become beautiful when filled with God’s grace.
Reflection/Application Questions:
What part of your story, when healed by grace, could shine like gold in someone else’s life?
Where in your life have you been trying to hide your brokenness?
Have you experienced God’s mercy in a way that “ruined” your old life?
What might it look like for you to say, “Here am I, send me,” even without knowing the full assignment?
