On Pentecost, the disciples gathered in the upper room waiting for the promise Jesus had given them: the coming of the Holy Spirit. While the world around them continued building, striving, and relying on self-sufficiency, the disciples waited with expectation and surrender. Pentecost reminds us that God often asks for obedience before giving all the details. The same Spirit that moved at creation, empowered the early church, and raised Christ from the dead is still at work today. The church is not called merely to remember what God did in the past, but to expect what God wants to do now. The question for us is this: are we spending our lives building towers like Babel, or are we willing to wait in the upper room for God to move?
