Lots of people gain their sense of identity based on a past failure. The problem with the past is that it never changes. God’s desire for us is based upon the future – who we are becoming, and who we are called to be. The way that the past is healed happens by coming to terms with our failures and seeking God for forgiveness for our sin choice: believing/living/thinking less than we were created to be.
