Sermon Title: The Upside Down Principle of the Kingdom – Erma’s Law: Arriving Home with Nothing Left

Teacher: Rev. Dr. Brian Ebel

Scripture: Matthew 20:1-16

Big Idea:
We’re called to be wise stewards of all we’ve been given. How do we arrive at the end of our lives in God’s presence using all we’ve been given the right way? We use it all for the Kingdom.

Key Points

1.) Your life’s mission isn’t about what you get. It’s about what you give.

For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. Matthew 20:1

2.) The Day Laborers

 farming is honorable profession

part of God’s divine intent in Genesis 1+2

work is a good thing

idleness brings death

hope to be hired each day

paid daily + good treatment

“Don’t hold back the wages of a
hired man overnight” (Lev. 19:13).

“Do not take advantage of a hired man who is poor and needy, whether he is a brother Israelite or an alien living in one of your towns. Pay him before sunset, because he is poor and counting on it. Otherwise he may cry to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin”
(Deut. 24:14-15).

3.) The upside-down economics of the Kingdom is this: you aren’t the day laborer. You’re the land owner.
